In Matthew 28:19 we read instructions Jesus Christ gave to his disciples on how to carry on his work. "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." It is these words that give FEFC Boone its purpose as a church. Our purpose is to fulfill this Great Commission of Jesus Christ. Therefore our mission is the same as Jesus' was, "to seek and to save the lost." (Luke 19:10)
Those who are lost can only find their way through the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) It's also said of Jesus that "And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12) Just think what these words mean. Jesus is the only way we can stop being lost because his is the only name that can save us.
But you may ask, "Why do I need to be saved?" or "From what do I need to be saved?" The answer to these is found in four different verses in the Bible book named Romans. Romans 3:10 says, "None is righteous, no, not one." Why? Because Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Why? Because Romans 5:12 says, "Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned." We inherited sin and death through the sin that was committed by Adam and Eve. What is the outcome of this situation? Romans 6:23a says, "For the wages of sin is death," This is not only physical death but spiritual death, meaning separation from God and spending eternity in hell.
Though we are all in this situation there is hope. Hope is found in these words about Jesus in Romans 6:23b, "but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." This gift was given as a result of Jesus' death for sinners on the cross, Romans 5:6 "For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly."
We receive this gift of eternal life through Christ's death by believing that Christ died for us, which is having faith, confessing our sins and then trusting in the death and resurrection of Jesus as the only way to find our way out of lostness and into a personal relationship with God. Romans 10:9-10 clearly teaches this. "Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved." The wonderful truth about these words is that this offer is for everyone, no matter how good or bad we have been. Romans 10:13 says, "For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
If you would like to be forgiven of your sin and know Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord you can simply, in prayer, go to him and tell Jesus you believe these words about him. Confess your sins and ask him to come into your life. Or, if you would like someone to answer questions about the things you've just read please feel free to contact us at the church office. If you ask Jesus Christ to be your Savior then it is important for you to start growing in your relationship with him, so start reading your Bible daily, spend time talking to Jesus in prayer and find a good church to attend. Also, make sure you tell someone else about the decision you've made.
